A Resolution We Can All Keep This Year

Now that we are approaching the end of the first quarter of 2024, it’s a good time to reflect on the year that just passed. It’s also a time to take stock of any resolutions you may have made for the new year. The EQUUS Foundation makes a resolution each year – to help ensure a humane environment where all horses – all equines – are safe, healthy, and treated with dignity.

We are pleased to share our 2023 Annual Report to thank all the individuals and organizations who helped make 2023 a great success – and to report on our accomplishments.

Some Highlights:

  • Awarded $565,054 in grants – topping $6 million since 2023 – to 121 equine charities impacting 4,300 equines, including 9,700 items of riding apparel to 715 recipients – helping to make dreams come true for horse lovers and the horses we love;
  • Established Lafitte De Muze Safety Net Grants aimed at helping to keep horses with their owners, assisting with re-homing the horses, and provide counseling and end-of-life services when needed;
  • Established Equine Studies Scholarships to inspire and reward the next generation of equine professionals;
  • Launched the #HorseProtector campaign to build consensus in the equine community to embrace solutions for equines in transition other than shipping them across our borders for slaughter;
  • Commissioned and released a study examining the sustainability and equine welfare and business-related performance indicators of equine charities supported by the EQUUS Foundation by renowned researcher, Dr. Karin Bump with the outcome that the future is challenging but promising with continued support.

Throughout history, human civilization has advanced on the backs of horses – literally! Horses have been our loyal partners in work, transportation, sport, war, and as companions and healers — and yet, tens of thousands of horses are abandoned and discarded each year to face an uncertain, and often horrific future.

The EQUUS Foundation remains committed to finding homes for at-risk horses and horses in transition, providing a safe haven for aged & infirm horses, and increasing opportunities for more horses to engage, inspire, and empower people.

It is only through engaging passionate supporters and collaboration that we are able to be a lifeline for America’s horses and support reputable, carefully screened charities across the country who are keeping horses safe in their own unique way.

For all horses do for us — we need to be there for them now, more than ever. We hope we can count on your support this year.
